What Is the Call of Duty League Championship Format?

Twelve teams take part in the Call of Duty League but only the top eight teams qualify for the Call of Duty League championship. Like most North American esports leagues, the concept of promotion and relegation does not exist.

Where a team sits on the draw will be based on the numbers of Call of Duty League points they accumulated through the season in the four Majors.

All eight teams have a really good chance of winning big because the format is set up in a way that teams will get a second chance if there was some bad fortune involved in their first match-up. It is structured in this way just to make sure that the very best team wins the Call of Duty League Championship when it is all said and done.

There is a winner’s round and an elimination round. There is a winner’s round 1, 2 and a winner’s final before teams can make it to the Championship final. The team that makes it to the Championship final from the winner’s round will have qualified without having lost a match in the Call of Duty League Championship to that point.

The Elimination round offers teams a second chance at making it to the final. There are 3 elimination rounds before the winner of the Eliminations finals gets a berth in the Championship final. The round you enter into in the Elimination rounds will depend on the winner’s round stage that you were eliminated in. For example, the team that loses the Winner’s final will directly qualify for the Elimination rounds final.

This is what makes the Call of Duty League Championship so fascinating. Whoever wins the Championship at the end of it all will be a truly worthy winner.

Who Is Likely to Win the Call of Duty League Championship 2022?

The last Call of Duty League Championship winners, Atlanta FaZe, will be heading into this season as the favorites. At this moment in time, it looks like a fight between them, Los Angeles Thieves and OpTic Texas.

Atlanta FaZe got the better of Toronto Ultra in last season’s final with a 5-3 score line and look primed to defend their title after an excellent league season. They’ve got more points than any other team in the league with 330 but it will be concerning that they haven’t made it to first place this season since the Stage 1 Major qualifiers, regularly finishing in second place as was the case in the Stage 1, 2 and 3 majors. Stage 4 Majors ended with them in 3rd place.

This is both impressive and a bit worrying. It’s impressive because they’ve been there and thereabouts that the very top all season but have not actually made that final jump this season. They have more to lose than any other team this season and the pressure could be too much. They’ll also be aware that no team has defended the championship before.

OpTic Texas are second as far as points go with 265 and won Major 1 and Major 2 qualifiers, came second in the Major 3 qualifiers but were quite poor in Major 3. They’ll be quietly confident that they can go all the way, having won the Call of Duty Championship in 2017 but that was a very different team to the one they have on their roster now. They’ll be hoping that they can use their regular season form on the Championship weekend, managing a league high 62.1% win rate in 2022.

Los Angeles Thieves have got the momentum after winning Stage 4 Majors. They were third in the regular season with 215 points but there’s a feeling around the Call of Duty esports world that they’re the next big thing and winning the Call of Duty League Championship weekend will help cement that.

Atlanta Faze, Los Angeles Thieves, and OpTic Texas have excellent Call of Duty League Championship winners odds. There’s hardly anything between these three teams.

New York Subliners are the only other side with decent Call of Duty League Championship winners odds but it’s hard to make as strong a case for them. They are in eight place in the regular season standings with 160 points and a win rate of 49.2%.

Last season’s runners-up, Toronto Ultra, don’t have the best of Call of Duty League Championship winners odds this time around. They are tied in 7th place in the regular season with 170 points and a win rate of 49.3%.

Seattle Surge, who are in the 5th place in the regular season standings and managed a win rate of 51.2%. London Royal Ravens and Boston Breach have really low odds and aren’t really worth a punt either. Neither of the teams did enough in the regular season or Majors to really warrant a gamble.

How Much Does the Call of Duty League Championship 2022 Winner Make?
