No doubt Kansas gamblers have been staring at their calendars as day after day passes without legal sports betting launching there yet, but now Governor Laura Kelly has promised that Sept. 1 is when the state’s four casinos will begin taking legal mobile and retail sports wagers, saying:

Legalizing sports betting is a common-sense solution that keeps Kansans’ money in Kansas and drives business to sporting events, casinos, restaurants, and other entertainment venues. We are grateful to all of our partners who worked with us in getting this done before football season.

The NFL’s 2022 Regular Season will begin on Thursday September 8, with an exciting matchup of the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams. This means Kansas bettors can place money on this game, joining 30 states that already enjoy that type of activity.

This so-called “soft launch” in Kansas will take place despite the fact that there are still many regulatory and administrative hurdles that Lottery Executive director Stephen Durrell has to overcome as this legalized sports gambling market moves closer to full launch.

Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission Continuing its Regulatory process

Part of the KS Lottery’s legal betting regulatory process involves proposing regulations to govern the new market. However, John Milburn (public information officer for AG’s) says that they have found “specific flaws” in some of these potential rules.

Milburn believes that all problems can be fixed, stating in a statement:

The Attorney General approved three regulations and returned them to the Kansas Lottery. We are looking forward to the Lottery resolving the legal issues quickly and submitting the regulations again.

It’s a slow process, but it has been a long one that all states with legal sports gambling have endured. The reward is the multi-million dollars in cash flows that this market can generate, which many states have allocated to programs that benefit residents who are most vulnerable.

Soon, Kansas’ gamblers will have many options to place sports wagers.

KS Sports betting in commercial casinos, mobile sportsbooks and local businesses

One of the key factors in a successful legal sports betting market is easy access to bettors. Kansas will soon have four state-run casinos as well as multiple mobile sportsbooks and betting kiosks in their local shops. The regular sportsbooks will be available, including Barstool Sportsbook in Hollywood Casino at KS Speedway and Caesars Sportsbook KS Crossing. DraftKings at Boothill Casino and FanDuel at KS Star, which offer both mobile and retail betting options.

BetMGM and FOX Bet will all be available on mobile, providing a wide range of options for Kansas gamblers. This will allow them to donate via their new tax revenue, which will go towards a fund to help Kansas attract professional sports teams, which could be very lucrative. This is an ongoing story.
