Maryland’s journey towards legalizing sports betting began in 2018.

Maryland has its own sports betting market. However, state legislators have allowed only the in-person version.

The mobile version of sports betting has been far more profitable than that offered in the states with both. Maryland regulators and lawmakers are now working together to create an online alternative.

As we reported recently in Maryland’s SWARC Approves Mobile Sports Wagering Regulations & Applications, the State’s Sports Wagering Application Review Commission is currently working to approve regulations to expedite the mobile betting process.

This takes time. Lawmakers want it to be right the first and that process is expected to take a while longer.

Maryland Mobile Betting Market to Launch by the End of 2022

Maryland State Lottery & Gaming Control Agency director John Martin hopes that Maryland’s mobile betting market will launch this fall. This would allow bettors to participate in the upcoming NFL Season which starts in September and finishes in February 2023.

In the interim, Maryland’s mobile betting market will be available at six sites scattered throughout the state. Residents who live in the Old Line State may drive to another state that has the option to take place while they wait.
