Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard Predictions
AJ Allmendinger Is Favored on the Indy Road Course—for Good Reason
During qualifying on Friday afternoon at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, AJ Allmendinger once again displayed his road course mettle.
Blistering the last half of the 14-turn course, Allmendinger secured the pole position for Saturday’s Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard.
That was just a portent of things to come. We think Allmendinger will win his third road course event of the 2022 season and advise betting on him, even at the relatively stingy price of +300 via DraftKings.
After all, the Dinger has won three of the last four road course events in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, dating to last fall’s race at the Charlotte Roval.
With Riley Herbst, It’s All About Finishing a Race in One Piece
Admittedly, based on Riley Herbst’s record on road courses this season, betting on his performance at the Indy Road Course may seem a far-fetched notion.
Herbst ran 26th at Circuit of the Americas, though he finished on the lead lap. On a rain-drenched track at Portland, he crashed out in 35th place.
But the ray of hope came in early July at Road America, where Herbst qualified third and came home seventh.
In Friday’s time trials at Indy, Herbst once again qualified third, and this time we think he’ll produce a finish that matches his starting spot. That’s why we recommend a top-three bet at +550.
Don’t Underestimate the Road Course Ability of Bubba Wallace
Bubba Wallace is running both the NASCAR Cup and NASCAR Xfinity Series races this weekend, and for the Xfinity event, he’s in optimum equipment—the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.
Though Wallace hasn’t scored a top 10 in 18 Cup Series starts on road courses, he does have a top five and three top 10s in seven tries in an Xfinity car.
Wallace qualified 13th for Saturday’s race, and we expect him to move forward throughout the event. That’s why we recommend a top-five bet at +350.
